Finding Materials

Almost everything you need for Refined Storage can be looted from various buildings. Controllers, Crafting Grids, Storage Componets and Wires can be found throughout office buildings in the City. Disk Drive blocks can be found in the basement of Office Tower 2. Aluminum, needed for the disk drives themselves, can be found in the Mechanical Workshop.

Power

So, you've gotten all the necessary blocks and materials for Refined Storage, and now you need to power it all. You have a couple options to do so, you can make an Alternator from Create, which turns SU (Stress Units) into power, and connect that to the Controller Block, but there are easier ways to get power in the start. Thermoelectric Generators can be found in the secret basement car lab of the Mechanical Workshop. These generators are simple to use. Dig a 3x1 hole in the ground, place the generator in the middle, and put lava (or magma block, or uranium block) on one side, then on the other side, put water (or blue ice, which can be found in the Hybrid Timber Tower). Now you've got power!

You can also make a windmill from immersive engineering, which will require treated wood planks, which can be found in the Mechanical Workshop as well.

Assembly

No cables required! Put the controller block on top of the thermoelectric generator, and it should start to power up. Add the crafting grid on top of the controller, and the disk drive block on the left, covering up the lava. Slot in some freshly made disk drives, and you are up and operational!
